Oliver Ryan

Christchurch New Zealand born, Oliver Ryan attended Weedons Primary School and St Kevins College in Oamaru.  He obtained a B.Agr.Sc at Lincoln College (Canterbury University) before an M. Agr. Sc. at Massey University.  Technical Manager of NRM Feeds in New Zealand before leaving for various assignments over 20 years in Hong Kong/Singapore (Business Development Manager Goodman Fielder Wattie), Jakarta (International Manager, Japfa Comfeed Indonesia) and Washington DC (10 years as Livestock Specialist in the International Finance Corporation, the private sector arm of the World Bank).

Extensive world travel developed an appreciation of art, photography and people (especially faces). Returning to NZ for semi retirement in 2008 allowed time to start painting with classes at Art Metro in Papanui (with Livia Dias as tutor) exploring a wide range of techniques and styles as part of a late developing art journey, with classes also with Jenny Dolezel, John Badcock, Nigel Brown, Jamie Stewart and Tatyana Kulida - and more latterly regular classes with Min Kim. Large canvases, large brushes, abstraction, and colour allowed for a freedom in painting when integrating "right brain" painting time when returning from  "left brain" international consulting commitments and such paintings dominated for a while, but since 2015 I have concentrated on oils and now have started water colour (wish me well!).
